MPT LOWERS SWE THAHAR INTERNET CHARGES TO 6KS/MB AND SMS TO 10KS/MESSAGE

YANGON, Myanmar, September 30, 2015 – Now all Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) Swe Thahar customers can enjoy internet usage for a lower price. As of October 1, the leading telecommunications operator will reduce the Swe Thahar internet charges from 7.5 Ks/MB to 6Ks/MB and will also improve the internet packages with promotional bonus MB.

The cost of SMS is also reduced to 10Ks/message, with MPT leading the pricing for the service and encouraging the use of SMS. The new lower rates can be enjoyed by all subscribers to the popular MPT service plan. The Swe Thahar plan now offers voice calls for 23Ks/min, SMS at 10Ks/message, and high speed internet at 6Ks/MB.

Existing customers who are on the Base Tariff plan will be required to manually subscribe to Swe Thahar by sending SMS “SWE” or “POSTSWE” to 1332. New customers will be automatically subscribed to the plan.

The use of data is growing as more Myanmar people use their phones to send emails, photos, and browse websites. By popular demand, MPT extends its “5 Minutes in 1 Hour” offer for an additional month

The leading telecom operator’s successful promotion will run until October 31

Yangon, Myanmar, 26 September, 2015 – Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), the first and leading telecommunications operator in Myanmar, announced today that they will extend their “5 Minutes in 1 Hour” promotion till October 31 instead of September 30, to meet the requests of subscribers.

“We are very pleased to see such positive feedback from our customers. They are enjoying calls to their family and friends with all the additional free minutes within an hour. Due to the popularity and requests to extend the promotion, we’ve decided to add another month to ‘5 Minutes in 1 Hour.’ We listen to our customers and want to provide the best services for them,” said Mr Takashi Nagashima, CEO of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations.

Promotion mechanics, terms and conditions will remain the same as before when Swe Thahar user makes a phone call. Of calls dialled by Swe Thahar users, the first 5 minutes are charged at the usual rate of 23 Ks/min. After which, the remaining time (up to an additional 55 minutes) is free of charge.

For example, when a user calls for 25 minutes, he/she only needs to pay for first 5 min—the additional 20 min are be free. Phone calls that last beyond 60 minutes will revert back to the normal voice tariff (23Ks/min).

The promotion is valid without additional action for all GSM/WCDMA Swe Thahar subscribers. It is valid for calls to every MPT number regardless of whether the receiver is Swe Thahar subscriber or not. This promotion is not applicable in the evenings from 6pm-10pm. There is no limit to the number of calls a user can make every day to enjoy the free talk time.

The Swe Thahar plan provides the best service to users with its affordable voice tariff of 23 Ks/min and faster mobile Internet speed. For GSM/WCDMA customers to subscribe to Swe Thahar, they simply need to send “SWE” or “POSTSWE” by free SMS to 1332.

SMS Donation channeled ceremony

Since the launch of the MPT SMS Donation Program started on August 6, it is our great pleasure to announce that through the end of August, MPT customers have donated a total of nearly 300 million Myanmar Kyats ( 296,530,500 MMK ) to support victims of the recent flooding in the country. This valuable goodwill from the Myanmar people will be channeled in utmost transparency to those affected by the recent disaster via the National Disaster Management Committee for flood rehabilitation measures in the areas of greatest need. The ceremony was held on September 3, 2015, 10am in Nay Pyi Taw at Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief & Resettlement, through by H.E Dr.Daw Myat Myat Ohn Khin, Ministry of Social Welfare, and Relief & Resettlement.

Those donations will be used at the support of housing, infrastructure, health care, water purification, and support for education supplies for schools and children who were affected via National Disaster Management Committee.
