MPT SMS Donation a Success with Donation Ceremonies in Nay Pyi Taw and Rakhine

Generosity of MPT customers raises 152,136,500 MMK for restoration and preservation of heritage sites damaged by earthquake

(Yangon, November 30, 2016) – Myanma Post and Telecommunication (MPT) has received a total amount of 152,136,500 MMK – from over 300,000 individual text message donations  during the period from 9th September to 31st October – for restoration and preservation of heritage sites damaged by earthquakes. MPT has transferred the donated money from its customers at ceremonies in Nay Pyi Taw and Rakhine.

All the proceeds from the SMS donation channel will go to the renovation of heritage pagodas damaged in the August earthquake, MPT transferred its altruistic customers’ donations directly to the organizations tasked with the preservation of some of Myanmar’s most sensitive and important stupas and temples in Bagan and Mrauk U.

On 30th November U Khin Maung Tun, Managing Director of MPT (Deputy CEO for MPT-KSGM Joint Operations), was at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture in Nay Pyi Taw to symbolically present the donation to the representatives responsible for the renovation of cultural heritage pagodas damaged by quake in central Myanmar.

“It is through the generosity of our customers that we are able to take part in this important contribution to the rebuilding and restoration of these highly important sites”, he said. “On behalf of the mobile users of MPT, I am honoured to pass on the charitable sentiments of our users – totaling over 152 million Myanmar Kyats – for damaged pagodas both in and around Bagan and locations in Rakhine. I hope this will be used to preserve these monuments for future generations.”

MPT also held a ceremony at Mrauk U in Rakhine, with regional management and representative monk of Sayardaw Baddanda Zargara of Radana Man Aung Pagoda in attendance, where the rebuilding efforts with the supervision of Mrauk U Sayardaw are also continuing apace.

Sayadaw Bhaddanta Zagara  said: “We thank MPT’s customers for their donation and best wishes. This will help in our task of renovating the pagodas, and we are very happy to receive these donations from the people. Thank you to all those that participated in the SMS donation.”

MPT Teams up with CB Bank for SIM Registration

What is this collaboration about?

MPT and CB Bank have announced that customers will be able to register their SIM cards at a number of bank branches across Myanmar starting from 16 November, 2016.

How many branches of CB Bank can customers register at?

At the launch of this initiative there are 24 CB Bank branches at which MPT customers can visit to access the service. (Locations are available at the end of this document.)

Will the initiative be expanded?

This is likely to expand in the future, with more CB Bank locations joining. We will announce it when it is ready. MPT is also open to collaborations with other retail partners in order to make it more convenient for customers to register their SIM.

Is MPT paying CB Bank for this facility?

Are there any other services that MPT customer can also do over the counter at CB? For example top-up purchases, SIM card purchases?

Only SIM registration is available.

Why must we register our numbers and SIM cards?

The Ministry of Transport and Communication, Department of Post and Telecommunication (PTD), announced on August 1 that every SIM card should be registered before March 31, 2017. The registered SIMs can be used as an identity in mobile money and mobile banking systems, in online shopping businesses and to apply when the SIMs are lost and damaged.

I have already a bank account, can I get the MPT BonusTop Up bonus?

Very sorry but new bank account which is opened at the same time of SIM registration is only applicable to the bonus top up.

How much is the MPT top up bonus amount?

How many locations can customers register at and where?

Can customers register their SIMs through other channels, such as web site or mobile applications?

MPT customers are now able to register their SIM cards online on the MPT webpage using their computers or mobile devices. The service has been made available for their added convenience on top of the nationwide network of MPT branded stores where registration services are available.

Do CDMA 450 & 800 customers have to register their SIM? How Many CDMA customers does MPT have?

We have quite small number of CDMA users and they are also required to register.

How many SIM cards have been registered out of your 20 million users?

We are encouraging people to register by the end of March 2017 and we will make sure that all of the customers will be registered as per the instruction from Posts and Telecommunications Department.

MPT Teams up with CB Bank for SIM Registration

(Yangon, 16 November 2016) – MPT and CB Bank have announced that customers will be able to register their SIM cards at a number of bank branches across Myanmar starting from 16 November, 2016.

According to the PDT’s announcement on August 1, all SIM cards must be registered by March 2017 and MPT is reaching out to partners to help make this process more convenient. CB Bank is the first to offer SIM registration over its counters so that people can easily and seamlessly document their card.

At the launch of this initiative there are 24 CB Bank branches at which MPT customers can visit to access the service. This is likely to expand in the future, with more CB Bank locations joining.
For customers who make SIM registration at the CB Bank branches and open the bank account at the same time, MPT bonus top up will be given from CB Bank.¬¬¬¬¬

Alternatively, customers may also contact MPT’s customer service call center by dialing “106” and a representative will guide them through the online registration procedures and requirements. Moreover MPT branded stores, will make it as simple as possible for MPT customers to quickly and easily make sure they can register their SIMs.

1. What is LTE+?

LTE+ is fourth generation of mobile phone technology and it offers users much faster connection for a mobile internet experience- up to ten times faster than 3G.

3. While I am on LTE+ and go to the places where LTE+ is not available, what will happen? Do I need to turn 3G on again?

No, you do not need to manually turn 3G on again. 3G will be automatically on when you go to the places where LTE+ is not available, and LTE+ will be on back once you reach LTE+ available places.

5. Can base-tariff users use LTE+ service?

No, base-tariff users cannot use LTE+ service. Since maximum data speed for base tariff users is limited to 256kbps (4ks/min) and 128kbps (2ks/min), they cannot use 4G service. Please subscribe to Shal Pyaw (dial*234*3#) or Swe Tha Har (dial *234*2#) to enjoy the fast speed of MPT 4G/LTE.

7. How can I turn on LTE+(4G) on my phone?

For iPhone:] Go to settings, choose cellular then go to cellular data options, then choose “voice & data”, there you can choose LTE (4G), 3G, 2G.

[For Samsung:] Go to settings, choose mobile network, then go to network mode and there you can choose LTE/3G/2G

[For Huawei: ] Go to settings and go to more, there you can enable 4G

[For Vivo: ]Go to Settings, choose Mobile Network and go to Network mode, and there you can choose 4G/3G/2G

  2. Your handset should be LTE+ compatible handset which supports 1800 MHz frequency band.

6. How do I know if my current SIM is a USIM or not?

8. How can I check my handset is 4G/LTE compatible?

Go to settings and Under Cellular Data Options or Mobile network, if there is 4G/LTE, the handset is 4G compatible. Please note that settings vary depending on the type of handset.

(Yangon, 15 November 2016) – From today MPT is offering a unique promotion, during which customers only have to pay for every other 2 minutes on the phone.

 

Talk more and talk longer on Myanmar’s largest network. Calls to other MPT numbers (on-net) are charged at the regular rate for the first 2 minutes and then get the next consecutive 2 minutes free of charge – essentially a discount of up to 50%. Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), announced for the temporary adjournment of exchange upgrade to be made on 30th November, 2016 which has announced on 25th October, 2016 in order to provide the better and updated exchange in Kyeik Hto Exchange in Mon State, Mahlaing Exchange in Mandalay Region and Nyaung Lay Pin Exchange in Bago Region.

To give better and concise system for the upgrading of exchange services, the telephone numbers will be changed and therefore more time is required and adjournment is required. Therefore the exchange upgrade will be temporarily adjourned and updated timeline will be announced once confirmed.

2. When do you we need to do SIM Registration?

This is a requirement from the government (PTD: Post & Telecommunications Department) and MPT will comply with the instruction from the government. Customers are required to register their SIM Cards with their Name after purchase the SIM.

3. Why must we register our Numbers?

According to a government instruction, all SIM cards are required to be registered.

4. What Information and documentation do I need to make registration?

Customer’s Name, and original and copy of national registration card (passport for foreigners) which was issued by Myanmar Nationality Law.

5. Will my information be kept safe?

Yes, all of the information received by the operators is safe as there will be no other use except for the purpose of registration.

6. Do I need to register under contracted sale from MPT in the past?

If current user is the different from the name mentioned in the contract the holder of SIM is required to register.

7. Can I register Multiple cards?

As per the announcement from Post & Telecommunication Department, starting 1st April 2019, 2 MPT SIM per NRC  can be registered.

8. How can we check our registered SIM Cards with my name?

Customer can check dialing * 601 # and if customer’s SIM registration information is not correct, Customers can update the information at MPT 4U Application or care.mpt.com.mm or visit MPT Own Shop in their respective township to get help with SIM registration.

10. How many MPT Own Shop, Branded Shop and POS?

89 MPT Own Shop, 218 MPT Branded Shop and nearly 100,000 POS nationwide.

9. What will happen if have not registered the SIM?

MPT services cannot be used without registration.

11. Will customers be charged for data connection used to download MPT4U Application?

It’s free for downloading MPT 4U Application by dialing *4040#. Downloading MPT 4U Application at Apple store / Google Play store would be charged.

12. Can customer check by calling 106? Will 106 disclose registered customers’ particulars?

Customer can check if the SIM was registered correctly or not by calling 106. . In case operator of 106 will ask customer to tell information such as name and/or NRC ID to verify.

13. Can customer amend the registered particulars through 106?

Customers can not amend the registered information through via 106.

14. Where customer can amend the SIM Registration?

Customers can visit to MPT own shop in your township to get support regarding SIM registration and also visit MPT’s customer self-care website (care.mpt.com.mm) or MPT4U for update information.

15. What is USSD for SIM Registration?

USSD is the fastest way to check SIM Registration information for MPT Customers.

16. How is it work?

Customer can check * 601 # for SIM Registration. The function is currently available.

Customer will receive a confirmation message (SMS) first and then receive an SMS again immediately. In the message, you will be able to check whether their MPT SIMs have been registered with their NRC (National ID) and if the information does not match, you can access the information through SMS link.

17. How we can know SIM Registration is finish or not?

Calling to *601# will then show whether the SIM card is registered on the user’s phone’s screen. If you are not yet registered with your name, you will need to re-register with your information correctly. You can check at MPT 4U or Self-Care webpage at https://care.mpt.com.mm/ and MPT Own shop.

There are no charges.

Starting from 18th October, MPT is providing its Web registration service for existing customers. In order to avoid overloading of the Website System, MPT will send SMS notifications to the customer. Once customers have received the information, they may register through the link and follow the procedures mentioned. Please wait to receive the SMS from MPT for the registration of SIM.

How much will it cost me to register?

There will be no cost or charges incurred to the customers for the registration.

How soon must I register?

Every purchase of SIM must be registered straight away at the point of sale.

Do I still need to register if I bought the card without providing the registration information?

Yes, one needs to register the card if the card being purchased is not registered.

What will happen if I have not registered my SIM card?

Registration of SIM is mandatory and one must register every purchase of SIMs. PTD announced that unregistered SIMs will be temporarily blocked after the deadline 31 March 2017. We urge users to be registered in time.

How willbe I be able to check that my number is registered?

Registration needs to be done during the purchase of SIM and therefore one can be sure that the number is registered. For added convenience, MPT introduced Web registration for existing customers through the MPT website from 18th October onwards. Customers can access the Web Registration page (Customer Self Care Page) and follow the procedures mentioned there. If the customers are unable to find their information there or that their SIMs are not registered, they are required to register. If the number you use and the information you found is not right at the webpage, customers can easily modify/correct and upload their information and register. For the customers’ convenience, we are also planning to provide the option of a USSD checking system in future.

Can someone else register for me?

Yes, someone else may register for you but you have to provide the copy of your NRC or ID card.

How will the socially disadvantaged, physically challenged, elderly and the minors be registered?

The socially disadvantaged, physically challenged, elderly and minors can be registered by having someone else providing the copy of NRC or ID for the purchase and registration.

Will Corporate Organizations be allowed to register?

Corporate Organizations are allowed to register.

What can I do if there is change in information provided at registration?

Any change of information can be updated through the point of sale where the SIM was purchased or one can also be registered through this Customer Self Care Webpage.

What will happen to a customer's airtime and existing subscription services if he or she does not register the SIM?

Registration of SIM is mandatory and one must register every purchase of SIM. PTD announced that unregistered SIMs will be temporarily shut down after the deadline 31 March 2017. We urge users to be registered in time.

How about our inventory SIM, is it needed to register?

Every sold SIMs need to be registered.

How do we send Customer application forms to the Operator?

Is there any penalty for the Distributer if the channel POS couldn’t get customers’ information?

No , But SIM registration is a mandatory action when they buy SIM cards.

Do I need to use mobile data to conduct online sim registration? Is it free?

What is Customer self-care?

Customer self-care is an online based service where subscribers can register SIMs online.

How may I find out about the steps for online registration? Is it possible If I ask staff from branded stores to conduct online registration for me?

Customers will receive an SMS from MPT with a link to the Customer Self-Care page in which needs sign up first to make an account and then they may proceed to log in with their mobile numbers through a web browser on their mobile device or PC. Customers may also contact MPT’s customer service call center by dialing “106” and a representative will guide them through the online registration procedures and requirements.

How would existing customers undergo web registration?

Below are the steps required to complete for the online SIM registration;

Step 1= SIGN UP

  • MPT will send a SMS to each user,

Then the Customer shall:

 

  • open the SMS message where they can see the URL link for the MPT Customer Self Care – sign up page,
  • after clicking on the link, input their phone number (9xxxxxxx),
  • input a password of their choice ( minimum 6 letters and digits),
  • confirm with the same password,
  • click on the ‘Get’ button to receive a verification code by SMS,
  • input the received verification code and click on ‘Registration’ button to sign up.

A message will pop up to confirm the successful sign-up, so Customer can now log in.

Step 2= LOG IN

Customer shall log into MPT Customer Self Care – Log In page, then:

  1. input their phone number (9xxxxxxxx),
  2. input the password they chose in the sign-up step,
  3. then click on ‘Sign in’ button.

If Customer forgets their password for the Log In step, they can click on the following link : ‘Login with SMS verification code’ and follow the instructions.

Step 3= SIM REGISTRATION

Customer shall then register by uploading photocopy of NRC or other ID card and ‘submit’ in the ‘My Information’ menu – ‘Customer Profile.’

    If users changed their account types from Postpaid to Prepaid, they will not be able to use Night Time Data Packs which they have already purchased.
