MPT Launches New 4G/LTE Service

(Yangon, 29 May 2017) – MPT has announced that it will roll out its highly anticipated new 4G/LTE service from 30 May 2017.

MPT is moving quickly to expand the 4G/LTE network now that the Government’s Posts and Telecommunications Department (PTD) has allocated the 1.8GHz spectrum. The largest cities of Naypyitaw, Yangon and Mandalay will be the first to experience much faster data speeds, before the service is made available to other locations in the near future.

LTE is short for Long Term Evolution, a technical standard of high quality 4G mobile communications which permits faster data transmissions than 3G. Customers will be pleased to know that if their devices are compatible they will be automatically connected to 4G/LTE when it is available in their area. MPT’s wide network has been carefully built to handle a smooth transition between 4G/LTE and 3G – which has already been officially recognized as the fastest in Myanmar. The new service will be expanded from the major cities to other towns as soon as possible.

Speaking about the release of 4G/LTE Mr. Toshitake Amamiya, CEO of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations said, “Our customers will love the increase in speed and quality that 4G/LTE brings. They can take advantage of data downloads in a fraction of the time, have a smooth gaming experience, share HD videos quicker and consume online content like never before. Using 4G/LTE will be charged at the same low prices as all our pay-as-you-go rates and Colourful Data Packs.”

Mr. Amamiya added, “All systems are ready to go, and we are about to usher in a new era in Myanmar communications. To mark this occasion we will announce special promotions and other activities, so please stay tuned for more details in the coming days.”

The 4G/LTE service is available for all MPT users with 4G compatible devices and SIM cards. MPT users with older non-compatible SIM cards may swap them for new 4G-ready ones, while retaining their current numbers, at any MPT branded stores in Naypyitaw, Yangon and  Mandalay for no extra charge. Customers are reminded to check their settings and ensure that 4G/ LTE is enabled on their devices.
