“MPT Green Movement” Nationwide Tree Planting Initiative to be Launched Across the Country

(Yangon, 25 July 2108) MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunications operator, announced that the second phase of “MPT Green Movement” nationwide tree planting initiative will start in 18 locations at the States and Regions throughout the country on 4 August 2018. MPT staff and other volunteers of 6,000 participants are expected to join the contribution and around 10,000 plants to be planted there.

Held for the first time in August 2017, MPT conducted the first phase of this initiative in Yangon, Bago and Ayeyarwady regions by planting over 2,000 plants with the support of MPT staff and public volunteers in a partnership with Non-Governmental Organization of Myat Neikbban, a tree planting and donation group. This year, the Forest Department, Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry is also helping by providing nursery plants of various types and species.

MPT understands the importance of fostering lush green environments via sustainable efforts throughout Myanmar, even as development is pursued in the country. Trees play a vital role in both rural and urban communities. This initiative aims to reduce the risk of natural disasters, carbon emissions and expects to encourage the public to maintain natural environment and biodiversity by increasing awareness about importance of tree planting. Along with “MPT Clean and Fresh to Move Forward” movement and “MPT Blood Donation Program”, the operator is encouraging local communities to participate in the public sphere and promoting activities focused on resolving social issues important for Myanmar society, as ecology and healthcare.

MPT Expands Technology Information Centers Operations Across the Country to Fill the Digital Skills Gap

(Yangon, 24 July 2108) MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading communications operator, plans to triple the number of its MPT telecenters to support the development of basic digital literacy skills. A wide range of beneficial information and communication services will be available free of charge for more MPT telecenters’ visitors this year.

This March MPT launched 40 MPT telecenters throughout the country. The number of MPT telecenters will be increased up to 150 by March 2019. In addition to unlimited free Wi-Fi for use with mobile devices, the operator is also providing laptops and tablets for free use at all MPT telecenters. Moreover, MPT trains the personnel to assist visitors and demonstrate safe internet browsing techniques.

“The digital age is expanding into all areas of our lives. The widespread acquisition of digital skills offers particular growth opportunities for Myanmar economy. Being a person with digital skills has never been more lucrative. Now, attaining these digital skills will be much easier for all visitors of our MPT telecenters. This year, we are planning to establish new telecenters in various locations to fullfill the digital skills gap between the urban and rural areas,” said Mr. Reizo Umeda, Chief Commercial Officer of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations.

All MPT telecenters are equipped with modern devices with a myriad of educational and entertainment content available. In addition, visitors can familiarize themselves with MS Office. A wide range of VAS services is also available for free, including entertainment movies, 800 games, more than 10,000 comics and novels or English lessons, as well as healthcare education service.

MPT Organized Nationwide Blood Donation Event Inviting Publics to Participate as a Memorial of Martyr’s Day

(Yangon, 13th July 2018) MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading communications operator, encouraged public participation in its 5th Nationwide Blood Donation Event which was held on 13th July. For the first time, including MPT participants, more than 1,000 people from public organization and interested individuals joined the donation by registering themselves at MPT branded stores in seventeen cities across the country.

Since 2017, over 1,200 MPT employees volunteered to donate blood at blood donation centers around the country. In excess of 429,800 ml of blood were donated during the past four editions MPT Blood Donation Events to help supply blood during emergency surgeries. Blood transfusion is also crucial in treating patients during complex medical and surgical procedures such as anemia or cancer.

“I am very proud to see strong participation of MPT employees in our CSR programs. This time, we invited all Myanmar citizens to join us in our effort to commemorate Martyr’s Day by national blood donation. Many health patients across the country rely on limited blood supplies that are crucial for their treatment. We would like to express gratitude to all volunteers who decided to support our initiative and show that Myanmar is in the hearts of all of us.” said Mr. Yoshiaki Benino, Chief Operating Officer of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations.

“We are glad that donation blood has become increasingly common in Yangon. We hope that with MPT’s Nationwide Blood Donation event the public awareness will be spread across the country. MPT Launches Hand Washing Programme in Collaboration with Ministry of Health and Sports to Improve Hygiene Among Children

(Yangon, 12nd July 2018) MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunications operator, held the first opening ceremony of hand washing facility at No (8), Basic Education Primary School, Ye Pauk Chaung in Miektila Township, Mandalay Region in collaboration with Public Health Department, Ministry of Health and Sports. The campaign is aimed at improving hygiene and promoting good health practices across students from 15 basic education primary schools in Mandalay Region, Mon State and Kayin State.

As a part of the MPT’s “Myanmar In Our Heart” initiative, operator will provide water tanks, group hand washing concrete facilities to selected schools as MPT always put Myanmar In Our Heart for every activities they do whether CSR or PR . The Ministry of Health and Sports supports this campaign by conducting training sessions for students to know good hand washing techniques in order to increase awareness about the importance of basic hygiene routine. This year MPT spent more than 80 million MMK to provide hand washing facilities. Five primary schools in each region have been chosen by the Public Health Department, Ministry of Health and Sports.

MPT recognizes the importance of health knowledge and awareness programmes. Healthcare sector plays a strategic role in the MPT’s CSR vision – “Together for Future Generations”. The operator aims to achieve impact in the public, private and third sectors by focusing its CSR initiatives on healthcare, education and business incubation.
