MPT and NLD Education Network Brings Digitally Skilled Youths Through Training of Trainers Program 2019

(Yangon, 13th December 2019) MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunications operator successfully held a graduation ceremony for new phase of training for digital skills trainers. After successful completion of the training course, they will spread their knowledge to local communities through the NLD Education Network (NLDEN) Training Centers across the country. The “Training of Trainers” (TOT) program is a crucial element of a successful “Digital Skills to Go Forward” (DSGF) computer literacy program which has been carried out by MPT since 2016.

In December, twenty-five students entered into a new phase of training focused on the mastering of Microsoft Office applications and proper IT teaching methodology. Participants of the TOT program were recruited nationwide by NLDEN schools. Most of them used to attend basic computer literacy classes at NLD schools and decided to give back to society by becoming a qualified trainer of digital skills. Within two years of the launch of this TOT program, up to 100 students has been concluded with the training and equipped with essential digital skills to train back the next generation youths the necessary digital skills.

“I am extremely happy that our ‘Digital Skills to Go Forward program’ contributes to the welfare of local communities, increases chances of youth on the labour market through the improvement of digital skill of young generation. Furthermore, especially today we are so happy to see many trainers are graduates of our DSGF program, and it is the evidence to show that such good effect of our program are spread widely in local society. Therefore, I would like to announce that we decided to continue this program next year under the cooperation with NLDEN to benefit even more young Myanmar people who grow Myanmar society in future. At MPT, we are dedicated to nurture the next generation to become capable of leading upcoming digital transformation in Myanmar,” said Mr. Koichi Kasuya, Chief Operating Officer of MPT-KSGM JO.

“Building network infrastructure is not enough to achieve digital inclusion and reduce the digital skills gap. To truly address these issues, we are working with MPT to improve the digital skillset of the underprivileged youths and Myanmar society as a whole.” added Dr. Myo Nyunt, Central Executive Committee member of NLD.

“I graduated Digital Skills to Go For program and acquired IT skill from it. So I am very happy to be a trainer to transfer such digital skill to other young generation in our society and make their life better,” explained Ko Aung Thura, student of the TOT program.

The “Digital Skills to Go Forward” program was launched by MPT as a part of its CSR efforts that focus on three main pillars: Education, Healthcare and Business Incubation. Since its introduction in 2016, more than 5,000 students from different parts of the country developed its crucial computer literacy skills by attending courses organized by MPT in collaboration with NLDEN aiming to increase access to technology and education for the youths outside of the main urban areas.

MPT is strongly dedicated to filling the digital literacy gap in many different ways. For example, MPT’s telecenters, easily reachable in 150 locations all over the country, have been designed to offer a wide range of beneficial information and communication services to its visitors.
