(Yangon, 8 December 2016) – MPT and KBZ Bank have announced that they will be offering customers the opportunity to register their SIM cards at a number of bank branches across Myanmar starting from 15 December, 2016.
According to the PDT’s announcement on August 1, all SIM cards must be registered by March 2017. KBZ Bank is the latest organization to offer SIM registration over its counters in collaboration with MPT, so that people have a choice of more locations of where to document their card.
In the beginning there will be 50 KBZ Bank branches that MPT customers can visit to access the service, and the bank will also be offering some incentives to entice people through the door. When a customer comes to register their MPT SIM card at one of the selected branches, they will also be able to set up KBZ internet banking for free. On top of that, if the customer does not already have account with KBZ, they will have the option of opening a new savings account, with 1000 kyats deposit preloaded.
MPT hopes that this will make registering SIM cards an easy experience and offers this service alongside the other channels through which people can follow the process. People can dial 106 to speak to a customer service center and a representative will guide them through the online registration procedures and requirements, or find out more about other locations where SIM cards can be registered.
“Developing new partnerships with banks like KBZ moves us closer to our goal of registering all our customer’s SIM cards by March 2017. We will continue to look for the best and most convenient options for our customers, providing many locations to complete the process quickly and easily”, said Mr. Koichi Kawase, Chief Commercial Officer of MPT-KSGM Joint Operation.
“We are very proud to take part in this project with MPT. Our nationwide branch presence will bring ease and convenience to customers. To attract more customers, we also are offering generous promotion for this project. We believe this is going to be a successful project for all participating parties.” Said Aung Kyaw Myo, Senior Managing Director, KBZ Bank.
Customers must provide their original NRC-ID card in order to complete both the MPT SIM registration and KBZ Bank account set up.
