MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunication services operator, is collaborating with the MNL to promote the long-term growth of the sport and cultivating a new generation of talented football players for the country. Backed by the Ministry of Education, MPT is organizing the University Tournament to raise youth participation whilst promoting a healthy lifestyle through football. Also a part of the initiative’s focus is to encourage female participation to grow the number of female athletes participating in traditionally male-dominated sports, especially football.

“We have always been continuously supportive of the football players from universities or colleges of Myanmar National League and Myanmar Football Federation. We will now be able to organize more comprehensive matches in the world of university tournament, with the incredible support of our 3-year partner, MPT whom we have collaborated with us since this year. This is among one of the agreements between MPT and MNL and will organize Grassroots and U-14 matches in the future. The aim of this collaboration is to produce qualified players for the Myanmar championship team and will contribute to the growth of university tournament standards. On behalf of all, I am grateful for MPT’s support towards university football players,” said U Soe Moe Kyaw, CEO of Myanmar National League.

“It is pleasing to see the enthusiastic participation of all the universities and their student teams in this compelling competition. Sport is an amazing way to help engage the youth in our country and inculcate values of self‐discipline, sportsmanship, leadership and of course living healthily. Through initiatives such as the MPT University Football Tournament, we want to see even more young people involved in sports as they stand to gain many benefits and maybe even go on to represent Myanmar in the international arena. We would like to thank MPT for organizing this nationwide tournament and to the eager team players and coaches, all the best!” said Dr. Tin Maung Hla, Chairman of the Universities’ Football Sub-Committee and Rector for the Yangon University of Distance Education.
