This unique religious day of observance is traditionally held as a Buddhist festival where monks are presented with offerings such as robes and other necessities from the public. MPT is lending its support by lighting small oil lamps to pay homage to Buddha and gain merit at eight major religious sites: Sule, Botahtaung, Kabaraye, Kyauk Taw Kyi pagodas in Yangon, the Sandarmuni, Kuthodaw and Maharmyatmuni pagodas in Mandalay, and the Kyeikhteeyoe pagoda in Mon State. In addition to the oil lamps, MPT will be providing shawls and candles at all these sites, as well as the sacred Shwedagon and Maharwizara pagodas in Yangon.
