MPT Expands SIM Registration Network

21 Dec 2016

Many more channels added for the convenience of customers

(Yangon, 21 December 2016) – Mobile operator Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) is expanding the number of SIM registration spots in a huge boost to help customers sign up as conveniently as possible.

Nearly 13 million MPT customers have already registered their cards. To bring this up to the total of over 21 million users, the company is setting up registration points in thousands of locations across the country, encouraging its customers to comply with the Government’s ruling that all SIM cards must be registered by March 2017.

There are 35,000 MPT points of sale already available now and this is in addition to collaborations with CB Bank, KBZ Bank and Bestone Mobile branches, and MPT is hoping to announce further collaborations with partners in the near future, offering even more choice of locations at which people can register.

There are ongoing events at key employment centres. 50 university sites are taking part in promotions for students, there will also be opportunities for government employees and industrial zone workers in Yangon and Mandalay to complete registration too.

For those not in the major cities, pop-up registration events will be arriving in many locations around Myanmar.  Following the success of the first MPT Road Show events in September, the concept is being organized for a second time, with more fun and games to be had at state shows in various regions.

In October MPT took a mobile caravan service to rural areas, and because of the positive response to that programme, the caravan will now roll into at least 55 locations all the way from Ayeyarwaddy, Bago & Tanintharyi, to Mandalay, Sagaing & Magway.

All MPT users have to do is bring along their SIM card and a form of identification (not copies), including: NRC card, student ID card or a driving license – for foreigners, passports are accepted.

Look out for the Road Shows and the caravan as it passes through your region, and visit http://mpt.com.mm/en/sim-registration/ to find out more about the other places where you can register, including online and in MPT branded stores.
