(Yangon, 2 January 2017) – MPT-KSGM Joint Operations is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Toshitake Amamiya as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective from 1 January, 2017. Joining from the KDDI Corporation (KDDI) in Japan where he was previously the Executive Officer, General Manager of its Global Consumer Business Division, Mr. Amamiya succeeds Mr. Takashi Nagashima who had been at the helm of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations since its formation in July, 2014.
Prior to his last role in KDDI where he managed the company’s business clients’ portfolios worldwide, Mr. Amamiya also held various other positions within KDDI including being the CEO of Advanced Business Development Division and the General Manager of Consumer Business Strategy Division between 2005 and 2016 with the organization in Japan.
He also spent over seven years in Paraguay, South America where he oversaw the operations of wireless network operator Hola Paraguay S.A., which KDDI previously had part-ownership of, as its Chief Operating Officer (COO), Vice President from 1998 to 2004.
Bringing his years of business development and service provision experience from within the telecommunications field across different countries, Mr. Amamiya will now look to build on MPT’s leadership position in Myanmar and help navigate the company through its next phase of growth. He arrives at an important juncture for both MPT and the fast-developing telecoms industry here, which grown more competitive in recent years with the introduction of new operators and emergence of new telecommunications services in the market.
His predecessor Mr. Takashi Nagashima has returned to Japan to help oversee KDDI’s Business Sector which is responsible for its corporate customers in that country. Mr. Nagashima had led MPT through a time of rapid development for the company, from the formation of the Joint Operations in 2014 to now encompass over 21 million subscribers in Myanmar and the significant expansion of its mobile coverage area to 96% of the Golden Land’s population.
“I am very honored and pleased to join MPT and hope to contribute my experience to build on the Joint Operations’ inherent strengths as the country’s largest mobile network operator and its leadership of the telecommunications industry in Myanmar. Together, we will move forward to deliver even more convenient and reliable telecom services by enhancing our network capabilities, help drive data usage and deliver new value added services to provide a better experience for users on our nationwide network,” Mr. Toshitake Amamiya said.
“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Mr. Takashi Nagashima for his exemplary leadership during his tenure which has elevated MPT’s profile during the crucial early years of the Joint Operations. MPT wishes him all the best on his future endeavors.” Mr. Amamiya added.
