Ahead of a roll out of full 4G services next year, MPT unveils 4G at a number of sites
(Yangon, 14 October 2016) – MPT has announced that it will begin its 4G service at a number of locations from today, emphasizing the company’s readiness to handle 4G when the licence for the ideal spectrum is released by the Government early next year.
During the launch event at MPT’s flagship Sule branded store in downtown Yangon, MPT demonstrated a service that runs off the 2.1GHz frequency, allowing 4G connectivity within the current spectrum allocation. MPT customers will be able to unleash the full potential of their smartphones there and at other locations around the city, at the existing price for data packs during this period.
Speaking about the release of 4G Mr. Takashi Nagashima, CEO of MPT-KSGM Joint Operation said “We have always had our eyes firmly set on building a large 4G network on the 1.8GHz frequency in 2017 once the Government has released that part of the spectrum. However, the soft launch of 4G today allows our customers to access enhanced data services on the existing network in some key locations, and demonstrates how MPT is technically ready for the next big step.”
“1.8GHz will be a fantastic improvement and opportunity for our customers. We will be able to offer incredible speed, with on a reliable network with wide coverage – even indoors.” he added.
As MPT-KSGM is a Myanmar company and is managed in close collaboration with a consortium of Japanese investors, the event was attended by Japan’s Ambassador to Myanmar H.E Mr. Tateshi Higuchi, who relished this latest development.
In addition to MPT’s Sule branded store, MPT users can access the 4G service at selected locations in Yangon including Junction Centre Maw Tin, Junction Square Centre and Taw Win Centre as well as in Nay Pyi Taw at Junction Center and Capital Hyper Market. Customers may also experience the service at the terminals of Yangon International Airport.
The 4G service at these locations is available for MPT Swe Thahar users with 4G compatible devices and SIM cards. MPT users with older non-compatible SIM cards may swap them for new 4G-ready ones, while retaining their current numbers, at any MPT branded stores in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw for no extra charge.
