MPT Launches SMS Fundraising Platform for The Customers Who Like to Help Fighting Against COVID-19

(Yangon, 6th April 2020) – As a part of its coordinated efforts to support the nation during the COVID-19 situation, MPT has launched a special SMS donation platform for its customers willing to help combat the deadly virus in Myanmar. Now, everyone can easily contribute to the battle against COVID-19 by sending a one text message. The donation will go directly to the Committee for Corona Virus Disease 2019 which is the official body formed to fight against COVID-19.

Those who want to help can send an SMS to 9900 with the message 500. One text message equals a donation of Ks 500. There is no limit on the number of times that customers can donate via SMS. Both prepaid and post-paid GSM/WCDMA customers can make the donation and the amount will be added to the phone bill for post-paid users or deducted from pay as you go credit for prepaid users.

By launching our text-to-donate platform we want to encourage our customers, who are keen to make a support, to directly support Myanmar’s public services in their fight with the virus,” said U Myo Than, DY COO of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations.

Now, MPT offers free and unlimited access to websites of the Ministry of Health and Sport, Myanmar Medical Association and 4 other well-known new sites. Additionally, in order to stay in touch with families and friends, all MPT pre-paid customers have a chance to receive up to 150% a top-up bonus of their recharge amount. Currently, MPT is also supporting 10 quarantine locations across the country with fiber internet. Furthermore, the operator already donated over 9,000 SIM cards with mobile data to people at quarantine centers in Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Kayin State to allow them stay in contact with their families and officials.

MPT is continuing the safe business operations of all its units and updating internal policies and procedures to improve customer service in-store and via its call centers.
