(Yangon, 28 September 2018) MPT, the country’s first and leading telecommunication operator, is today opening up an SMS donation channel for its customers who can now contribute their credit for the construction of the planned Eternal Peace Pagoda that will be built in Dakhina Thiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw.
To donate, MPT users just need to send SMS “500” to 9000 from 28 September in support of the pagoda which will celebrate the nation’s efforts and commitment towards peace for all its people and communities. Each donation will be 500 Ks per SMS and customers can contribute as much as they want throughout the campaign period.
“The Eternal Peace Pagoda which will mark the noble pursuit of peace in Myanmar and for its people, will be a lasting symbol for the country many generations to come. In support of efforts for its construction and the appointed trustees (“Gawpaga”) to manage the pagoda upon its completion, MPT customers can helpfully donate through the SMS campaign on their mobile devices. With all the contributions, MPT will later be handing over the donations to the pagoda’s oversight committee. We are sure that we can count on the generous support of our users who can do their part for this inspiring endeavor,” said U Naing Ko Ko, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations.
The construction of the Eternal Peace Pagoda was announced by the Union Government earlier this year, with a ceremony for the laying of its cornerstone held back in May attended by President U Win Myint, and witnessed by venerable senior Buddhist clergy members. The pagoda, which was to both commemorate the country’s initiatives towards peace so far and to inspire continued peace in the future, will be a location of national significance.
The SMS channel to donate to this initiative will remain open until further notice from MPT.
