03 Oct 2017

(Yangon, 3 October 2017) – Customers of MPT can now donate in support of local peoples seeking safety from the clashes with ARSA extremist terrorists in Rakhine State via SMS donations starting from 3rd October at 12:00 PM to  31 October, 2017.

Customers who wish to donate funds that will go towards essential supplies for the displaced people in Rakhine can simply send SMS “500” to 3001 (For prepaid/postpaid GSM/CDMA/LTE+ users). After sending the SMS, 500 MMK  will be deducted per SMS from customers’s credit balance.

MPT users are given the opportunity to donate as many times as they wish as long as there is enough credit on the SIM card. There is no cost to sending the messages apart from the 500 MMK donation from users’ balances.

U Khin Maung Tun, Managing Director of MPT (Deputy CEO for MPT-KSGM Joint Operations) said: “Along with these donations and offers of support, our thoughts are very much with the communities displaced from the affected areas of Rakhine. We are gravely concerned and saddened by the conflict which has resulted in the loss of many lives and homes. MPT has opened an SMS donation channel for the humanitarian efforts and would like to urge our millions of users to contribute and share their generosity to ease the suffering faced by the people of Rakhine.”

All aid received from this SMS drive will be donated on behalf of MPT’s users to provide urgent food baskets and shelters for the victims of the violence in Rakhine, in the spirit of national unity through Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

As a caring and responsible Myanmar organization, MPT and its customers make significant contributions in response to crises that impact the country’s communities. In September 2015, the operator raised nearly 300 milliion MMK through SMS channel with the donations from MPT users to provide aid for people caught in severe flooding which hit during the rainy season. MPT also organized a SMS donation drive for rebuilding efforts in Bagan in September 2016, following a massive earthquake that damaged many priceless ancient heritage sites with more than 160 million MMK contributed by our customers including donation from MPT.
