Customers may now conveniently register SIM cards at nearby post office locations
(Yangon, 23 December 2016) – Telecommunications operator MPT announced that its customers may now conveniently register their SIM cards at 782 post office locations nationwide.
The availability of additional SIM registration venues through Myanmar Post, national postal services provider comes as part of MPT’s drive to ensure that its more than 21 million users are signed-up in accordance to the national ruling that all SIM cards are required to register by March 2017.
Mr. Koichi Kawase, Chief Commercial Officer of MPT-KSGM said: “We are pleased to have SIM registration available via the post offices, which are extensively located in communities and townships throughout the country. As many frequent these places to conduct their daily business or errands and seek out services at their nearby neighborhood postal spot, they now have the added convenience of being able to easily register their MPT SIM cards.”
All MPT users have to do is bring along their SIM card and a form of identification (not copies), including: NRC card, student ID card or a driving license – for foreigners, passports are accepted.
Daw Ngu Thida, Deputy General Manager of Myanmar Post Office said: “We at Myanmar Post Office are thankful to have a chance to contribute, where we can, to the SIM registration process by MPT which is a sister organization to us. Through the post offices around the country, we will collaborate with MPT to ensure the success of the SIM registration efforts, as we originally are service providers. Since Myanma Post Office is also in its transitional period and we need to earn people’s trust, we will all fully provide services to the people.”
Alongside the 782 Myanmar Post offices, there currently are 35,000 MPT points of sale already available in addition to over 300 exchange offices all over Myanmar as part of its network of locations at which people can register. This is in addition to collaborations with CB Bank, KBZ Bank and Bestone Mobile branches to avail registration services.
