(Yangon, 4th July 2018) MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunications operator, kicked off opening ceremony for MPT U-14 Football Tournament 2018 at Bahtoo Stadium in Mandalay led by Myanmar Football Federation and in collaboration with Department of Basic Education and Myanmar National League. Along with the Under-14 Football Tournament 2018 opening ceremony, MPT Grassroots Football Festival 2018 was organized to encourage healthy lifestyle among the younger generations of Myanmar. MPT supports both events in partnership with the Myanmar National League (MNL) to bring more opportunities for young football players. MPT management and employees of regional office participated in the opening ceremony to express their commitment to development of sport fields in Myanmar.
MPT Grassroots Football Festival 2018 is aimed at encouraging children to participate in sport activities, especially football. During the event, children aged between six to twelve, have a chance to play and demonstrate their basic football skills to the public. Prior to the event, a special training has been provided for two days to physical education teachers from local schools to share the methods to their students. Additionally, MPT supports teams with full range of training equipment, such as suits, shirts, goals, bibs and cones. During the next six months, MPT Grassroots Football Festival 2018 will be organized at local stadiums in eight regions (Mandalay, Monywa, Bago, Mawlamying, Sittwe, Pathein, Yangon and Taunggyi).
MPT U-14 Football Tournament 2018 will also take place in eight regions starting from Mandalay where twelve teams from four groups will compete each other from 5th July to 10th July. The top teams from each group will meet on 12th July for semi-final. The final match and a third-place playoff will be played between two loosing teams on 14th July.

U Soe Moe Kyaw, Chief Executive Officer of MNL said “The most important part of Grassroots level initiatives is to educate young children how to play football. In other words, introducing the taste of playing football. Under-14 level raises the players for selected teams and football academies. The main goal of U-14 tournament is to foster talented players. I am so happy that we will be able to organize our grassroots festival for the next 3 years with incredible support from MPT. I would like to express my appreciation to MPT and hope to witness the significant improvement of Myanmar Football Industry.”
Mg Naing Aung Lin, 12 years old student from Basic Education High School No.(18) , Mandalay, how participated the grassroots event said ““I am very happy to participate in the festival like that. I am really interested in playing football and I want to join our national team when I get older!”
In December last year, MPT entered into a strategic partnership with the Myanmar National League (MNL) to promote football and support players development in Myanmar. As a one of the pillars of the “Myanmar in Our Heart” initiative, MPT will be teaming up with MNL to host scouting events for children, university tournaments and other competitions focused on promoting good health among the people of Myanmar over the next three-year period.
